Service Rates & Procedures
The School of Engineering instructional lab facilities are available to the campus community to support research, courses, clubs, and interdepartmental projects.
How to Request Service
Send an email to soeinstructional@ucmerced.edu with a description of your project and what equipment/service you need assistance with or access to.
Supported Services
- 3D Printing
- Tier 1 (Plastic FDM): PLA, ABS, TPU, PC, PETG, PPA
- Tier 2 (Resin SLA): Clear (other resins available upon request)
- Tier 3 (Reinforced fibers): Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, Kevlar
- Tier 4 (Metal FDM): 17-4PH SS, Copper, H13 TS, D2 TS, Inconel 625, A2 TS
- Selective Instruments Access
- Tier 1: 1 person per semester, up to 10 hours
- Tier 2: 1 person per semester, up to 25 hours
Requirements
- We process recharges for the services we provide: we can only offer our services to projects that have a COA to pay with.
- Each COA must be provided with written approval by the PI or account manager.
- 3D Printing
- Files shared must be in .STL or .OBJ format
- Design assistance can be requested
- Material preferences can be shared (out-of-stock materials require 1 week to deliver)
- Selective Instruments Access
- Users must describe project needs and receive training before access is granted.

Additional Notes
- Equipment/3D printer priority will always be given to courses
- Design assistance may incur additional charges for staff time
- High volume print requests may have longer turnaround times
- Selective Instrument Access does not roll over to new semesters
